Who is Maa Dalit Mata?
Maa Dalit Mata is the original Mother of oppressed peoples. She is Neel Devi, the Blue Goddess, because the sky is free for all and so is her grace. She is Bahujan Mata, the Mother of the many, and Godha Vahini, she who rides the monitor lizard as her sacred vehicle.
For five thousand years her name has been a lamp in the dark. She does not belong to a caste or a gatekeeper; she belongs to every heart that calls her. To remember her is to remember one's own dignity.
The Blue Colour
Blue is her colour because the sky is free for all. It is the colour of the infinite, the colour of liberation that no wall can contain.
Godha, Her Vehicle
The monitor lizard (godha) is her vahana. Small, earth-bound and fearless, it reminds us that the divine rides with the humble.
Neel Agni
Her weapon and her gift is Neel Agni — the blue fire of knowledge and self-respect that burns away shame.
A PRAYER TO THE MOTHER
नीला देवी गोधा वाहे बहुजन माता नमोस्तुते
Nīlā devī godhā vāhe bahujana mātā namostute
Blue Goddess who rides the monitor lizard, Mother of the Bahujan, we bow to you. May your blue fire light every home, and may no child ever bow in shame.
